Listen to Your Body ~ Control Overeating
Have you ever heard of the saying “My eyes are bigger than my stomach!” Take it to heart and gain control of overeating. Listen to your body. The good news is listening to your body does not mean starving it. It’s not a starvation diet where you might lose weight, but the minute you eat again; the weight is back and often worse than orginally. This is called a yo-yo diet and is truly unhealthy.
Listen to your body and design good habits that will stay with you for a lifetime. If you committ to healthy eating habits for 90 days they will be engrained into your life. Even if you take a short (really short) sabatical (your birthday weekend) your body will crave it’s healthy habits again.
Try these tips to control overeating:
~ Just like real estate is all about location ~ eating control is all about portions.Do not let your eyes control you stomach. Take small portions and watch how your body responds favorably to the cravings and hunger.
~ Salads are an ideal beginning to a meal. It will curb your appetite naturally and help you eat less of the entree.Just watch the calorie-filled salad dressings because they can be hidden fat and calories.
~ Split meals at a restaurant. Talk to your dining companion about sharing the meal prior to ordering or decide that you will only eat half of your entree and take the rest home. Be careful though not to eat the second half close to bedtime or in the middle of the night. Treat yourself to a yummy lunch the next day.
~ Eat five-six small nutrious meals throughout the day. This will boost your energy level all day and lessen the desire to binge on food in the evening. Make sure to include fruits and vegetables during the day. They will fill you up, add fewer calories and give you fiber.
~ Pamper yourself at least once a month. Once you are aware of your body’s needs and you have formed healthy habits; allow yourself a treat. Eating a treat every once in awhile gives you the reward for maintaining a natural healthy lifestyle otherwise. It isn’t about suffering.
~ Share meals with loved ones. It is more tempting to binge and overeat alone. Enjoying the company of a dining companion allows you to slow down through conversation and relaxation.
Listen your body and control overeating. It is the natural way to weight loss and maintenance.
